This course provides an overview of historical, current and emerging information systems in health care. Privacy and security issues will be covered in the context of ethical behaviors and legal/regulatory requirements. Multiple systems, vendors, processes and organizations will be studied. Students will learn features and functions that are common to most health care information systems. Criteria, tools and methods for evaluating health care information systems will be explored.
This course involved two major projects: The first being both an individual and team-based exercise in evaluating medication dispensing pharmacy IT systems. The second project was related to developing an understanding of the diverse terminology used in healthcare and the challenges it poses in electronic records sytems. I created this presentation at the conclusion of the terminology project.
